San Diego Dog Photography

- John Woolley

My first experience with dog photography was in 1997. I was Annie Leibovitz' third and lowliest assistant, shooting Calvin Klein at his beachfront home in the East Hamptons. Annie wanted a shot with Calvin and his dogs. "John, go wrangle the dogs over here!" I ran down the beach after them. They'd stop and look at me playfully, waiting for me to catch up. Then they'd take off along the shore, tongues out, having a great joke. I totally failed, and Annie didn't call me back.

Today, I own Aquario Studio, specializing in portrait and wedding photography. But as an artist, I am working on a personal, fine art project: my FurBaby dog portraits. These images represent my passion for gorgeous light, subtle black and white tonalities, and individual personality. I get down eye-to-eye with my subjects, exploring their heroic qualities. I love these photos, and I hope you will too.
